My third and final cover sample I did for my submission to IDW Publishing. This one of course is 4 of the original crew of the starship Enterprise from Star Trek. My color choices where heavily influenced by the look of the original series. The backgrounds correspond with the colors of their shirts. I wanted them to look as if you were looking through that particular colored lens or filter at whatever was in the background. The portraits would stand out better as they were in full color. The lines, lettering, and a few glow effects are digital. The portraits themselves I wanted to have the look of the original series as well. I muted some of the colors and tried a few other things to try for that look you see on the tv. I can't describe it, but if you know the series, the cameras or the film made it look unique as far as colors, glows, and blurs. Of the three, I think this is the one that I would change the most on. It works but I think I would do better now. Some have said, however, that this is their favorite of the three. Go figure. I'm a perfectionist and really hard on myself. You decide.

This piece, to a Star Trek fan, is so deliciously spot on. The work that you put into the likeliness of each character is admirable. I have such a fondness for authentic, traditional work- it gets lost in all this digital know-how, but I really do appreciate the hand-eye co-ordination it takes to do portraits naturally.
This is a lovely piece, very clean and eye pleasing, such as the show itself.
You have no reason to doubt yourself, this is a great piece of work.

Wow what a great comment, thanks. You are very kind. Eventually, I want to do more Trek stuff if I ever have the time. I've got some good compositions in mind. Coincidently, one of my blog names is shazam23. I'm a big Captain Marvel fan.
